How do I check the status of my unemployment claim in Massachusetts? ›

The best way to reach the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is by phone. Our main Call Center can be reached at (877) 626-6800 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Multilingual call agents are available.

You should apply for unemployment benefits during your first week of total or partial unemployment. Most claims are processed within 21-28 days after filing. It may take longer if there is an issue with your claim.

Unemployment Insurance Walk-In services are available at the DUA Walk-In Center in Boston and at One-Stop Career Centers in communities throughout Massachusetts. Services include assistance with filing a new claim for Unemployment Insurance, reopening an existing claim, or resolving problems with your current claim.

If you physically can't work, aren't available to work, or aren't looking for work, we will send you a questionnaire and place your benefits on hold. Your benefits will stay on hold until you are determined to be eligible again based on the information you provided on your questionnaire.

If, based on your answers to the certification questions, you are eligible for benefits that week, typically you should receive your benefits on the Tuesday or Wednesday of that week.

You do not have to do DUA's work search or look for a new job. You keep getting regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. After your regular UI benefits run out, you may be able to get extended UI benefits for up to 26 weeks.
